Rhinoplasty in Geneva - Dr. Prevot, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery

Overview

Rhinoplasty techniques have improved greatly since it became widespread in the early 1900’s. The simple removal of the nose hump, or reduction rhinoplasty, developed in the 60’s into the trend of small, turned up noses, with mixed results. Since the early 2000’s, natural looks have become more popular, but the American-style face continues to prevail: small nose, big lips, even if it means losing part of your personality. However, in my personal practice, I try to direct patients toward more natural and personalized looks.

Is it for you?

A disproportionately long or large nose can look too present on the face, which can enhance charisma but can also be very disturbing, in which case rhinoplasty is the most preferable option. Many of my patients also need surgery to correct flaws resulting from previous operations. With the emergence of micro-invasive surgery, we can now correct defects without risks and complications of a major surgery. It is generally preferable to perform serious nose operations on people under 30.

Technique

The two main rhinoplasty techniques are invasive surgery and micro-invasive surgery.

Invasive surgery is done at the clinic under a general anesthetic. It is comfortable and allows for virtually any type of modification. It also allows for the improvement of respiratory mechanisms and the modification of constructive structures. Results are permanent.
Micro-invasive surgery is done at the office surgery under local anesthesia. It allows for small modifications like the treatment of a mini hump or the rectification of the tip of the nose. Results are immediate and require maintenance.

Procedure

The permanent rhinoplasty procedure is performed after at least two consultations. The patient stays at the clinic for 6 to 36 hours depending on the operation. The procedure is performed either using an open or closed technique and leaves no visible scars. Some bruises may appear around the eyes and a splint has to be worn on the nose for about ten days.
The micro-invasive technique usually consists of a combination of hyaluronic acid injections and threads positioning, also with no scarring. Dressing is placed for about ten days. There are no bruises.

After the operation

For invasive surgery, social and professional activity will have to be limited for ten days. Results are fully stabilized six months after the operation.
For micro-invasive surgery, all activities can be conducted as usual with no specific restrictions.

Results

Invasive surgery leaves permanent results with a “new nose” forming a harmonious face that can change your life. The results of micro-invasive surgery are more subtle and reversible, it is ideal for fixing small flaws resulting from previous imperfect invasive surgery.
