Asian blepharoplasty

Widely used, eyelid surgery for Asians creates the illusion of larger eyes. It gives a doe-eyed look without altering the natural features of the face.

Specifically designed for patients of Asian descent, it creates the upper eyelid crease to enlarge the shape of the eyes.

General information

The Asian eyelid has unique anatomical features, notably the absence of an upper eyelid crease and the presence of an epicanthal fold, a fold of skin that partially covers the inner corner of the eye. These features can give the impression of a slightly small, half-closed, or tired eye.

In this context, the most common procedure involves creating an upper eyelid crease. It is also possible to treat the epicanthal fold and reduce the thickness of the upper eyelid to make the eye appear slightly larger. This is known as Asian blepharoplasty. This modification creates a widening effect while maintaining the harmony of the facial structure.

The goal of Asian blepharoplasty is to meet patients’ aesthetic expectations by slightly reducing their ethnic characteristics, while offering a subtle transformation. The result opens up the eyes while ensuring great discretion, which is essential to achieve a natural and harmonious result that takes into account the particularities of each face.

Indications

Indications are particularly clear when the eye appears very small or almost closed due to the position of the upper eyelid. In these cases, the benefit of surgery is significant.

Asian blepharoplasty is ideal for patients who wish to achieve a more open and expressive gaze without losing their cultural identity. It is also suitable for those with a pronounced epicanthus or a thick upper eyelid, which may create a tired or closed appearance. This eye surgery is appreciated for its rejuvenating and balancing effect, while fully respecting individual facial characteristics. It can sometimes be combined with other procedures, such as micro lifting.

Technique

Under local anesthesia, Asian blepharoplasty is performed to create the upper eyelid crease. Stitches are placed between the aponeurosis of the levator palpebrae superioris muscle and the skin to define the line of the upper eyelid crease. This crease, which appears naturally when opening the eye, is located approximately 7 mm from the lash line. The exact position and depth of the crease are chosen according to each patient’s individual characteristics to ensure a harmonious and natural result.

The procedure may also include correction of the epicanthus, a skin fold at the inner corner of the eye, helping to further open the gaze. This adjustment reduces the “closed eye” effect while maintaining the natural shape of the eye. The sutures are placed with extreme precision to create a smooth and natural curvature, fully respecting individual morphology.

This technique is designed to meet aesthetic expectations while maintaining a perfect balance between opening the gaze and preserving facial features. The objective is never an artificial look, but a subtle and refined enhancement that blends seamlessly with the rest of the face.

Procedure

The procedure is performed in the office or in a clinic under local anesthesia. Duration : one hour. It is carried out on an outpatient basis, allowing you to return home the same day. Local anesthesia makes the procedure painless, and daily activities can be resumed relatively quickly.

Great care and precision are applied at every stage to ensure a natural and long lasting result.

Postoperative course

Postoperative recovery after Asian blepharoplasty is generally simple and minimally restrictive. About one week is usually required before marks become less visible. As with upper blepharoplasty, wearing large sunglasses is recommended during this period.

Mild swelling and bruising may occur but usually resolve within a few days. Follow up consultations are scheduled to monitor healing and the evolution of results.

Results

Results are definitive and stable from the second month after surgery. The gaze appears more open, brighter, and more expressive. Scars are carefully hidden within the natural eyelid folds and gradually become almost invisible over time.
