With the rise of internet use, demands regarding the aspect of intimate parts have increased dramatically over the past 25 years. A set of norms was progressively implemented, and today, certain expectations are becoming unrealistic. As a doctor who respects the hippocratic oath, I often have to decline unreasonable demands for operations.
It is important to know our bodies and feel satisfied with how they look. The popular norm for the removal of pubic hair also makes our private part more visible, contributing to our concerns about the way they look. Micro invasive surgery like injections or fat transplants are reversible procedures and can be performed repeatedly without much concern. However, irreversible operations, like for example shortening the labia minora, should only be performed if there is an existing anomaly that was pointed out either by a gynecologist or by a plastic surgeon.
