Nymphoplasty

The labia minora, also called nymphs, play an important role, particularly during childbirth, when the baby’s head passes through, and they must not be damaged. Nymphoplasty is an intimate surgical procedure based on the reduction of the labia minora, with the aim of improving physical comfort and anatomical harmony. Whether for aesthetic, functional, or psychological reasons, this operation helps restore natural symmetry and everyday well-being.

General information

Surgery to reduce the labia minora was already described in 16th-century surgical treatises, such as those by Dionis, surgeon to the King, who explained how to reduce the nymphs when they “hang outside the labia majora … one cuts with scissors what is excessive …”.

Although labia minora reduction surgery is an ancient practice, modern techniques have evolved considerably over time to provide more natural and less invasive results. Today, this procedure is performed with millimetric precision and respects both the anatomy and the function of this particularly sensitive area.

Indications

  • In cases of very long labia minora protruding beyond the labia majora and causing discomfort when wearing tight clothing
  • In cases of significant asymmetry
  • In cases of pain during sexual intercourse

Beyond physical discomfort or asymmetry, this surgical procedure may also be considered for aesthetic or psychological reasons. Some patients experience discomfort during sports activities, particularly swimming or cycling, or feel self-conscious in their intimate life. Intimate labia surgery helps restore harmonious symmetry and improved daily comfort.

Technique

The surgical gesture is meticulous and fully personalized. During a detailed consultation, I define the desired result together with the patient, taking into account her expectations and morphology.

The technique consists of removing the excess conjunctivo-mucosal tissue in order to obtain labia minora measuring at least 15 mm, symmetrical, with a smooth and continuous outer edge, without notches. In practice, the incision design may vary : longitudinal, triangular, or a combination of both in cases of severe hypertrophy.

The goal is to create a natural balance, while preserving sensitivity and tissue function.

Procedure

Each step is explained in detail to reassure the patient and ensure optimal comfort. The procedure takes place in a safe medical environment, either in the office under local anesthesia or in the clinic under general anesthesia, on an outpatient basis. The surgery lasts approximately 45 minutes. You then rest for a few hours (between 1 and 4 hours) before going home. There is no pain. A healing cream is applied, along with appropriate underwear.

The procedure is carried out with rigor and delicacy, with a constant focus on precision.

Postoperative care

Postoperative recovery from this intimate surgery is generally straightforward. Mild swelling may persist for a few weeks but gradually subsides, revealing a natural result. The sutures are resorbable and fall out spontaneously at the end of the healing process, around day 15. The scar quickly becomes completely invisible, although it may remain sensitive for about one month.

Tight clothing, cycling, and sexual intercourse are discouraged for three weeks. I recommend regular follow-up visits to ensure proper healing and patient satisfaction.

Results

The results of labia minora surgery are visible within the first few days, but they continue to improve as swelling subsides. The vast majority of patients report a renewed sense of confidence and a significant improvement in quality of life. This gynecological aesthetic surgery represents a lasting investment in well-being and personal fulfillment.

Other procedures may be considered to achieve a global aesthetic result, such as monsplasty or labia majora augmentation.
