Eyelid reconstruction<\/h1>\n

The structure of your eyelids can be damaged by a variety of conditions, from local infections to eyelid cancer or even facial paralysis. Overview<\/h2>\n

The primary function of our eyelids is to protect and moisten our eyeball in order to preserve our vision. Because our upper and lower eyelids function differently, their operations require different approaches. For example, using composite grafts or local tissues is better adapted for the upper eyelid to preserve its mobility, while the lower eyelid can be treated using thicker skin, like for instance from the cheek area. Eyelid reconstruction surgery is adapted for any pathological malposition: entropion and ectropion, ptosis, cancers and tumors, recent trauma or scars.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Technique” tab_id=”technique”][vc_column_text el_class=”title title__md title__text-transform-inherit link__secondary” el_id=”technique”]<\/p>\n

Technique<\/h2>\n

All techniques used are especially meticulous:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Skin plasty: used to treat small lesions like scars<\/li>\n
  • Skin or composite graft: used to treat parts of the eyelid hit by a cancerous lesion<\/li>\n
  • Skin flaps: used for fully developed tumors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Procedure<\/h2>\n

    For small skin lesions <\/u>: under local anesthesia at the medical office<\/p>\n

    For malpositions like entropions, ectropions, or ptosis <\/u>: under local anesthesia at the clinic. Spending the night at the clinic is often advised.<\/p>\n

    Tumors<\/u> : inpatient with one to two nights at the clinic. The combination of methods used for the reconstruction of the entire eyelid often requires the eye to remain covered for a week.     After the operation<\/h2>\n

    Your eyelids will be swollen for about a week. Your vision will not be impaired but you may have to wear sunglasses for two to three days.
    \nReconstructive surgery methods allow the patient to recover full eyelid functions, usually without any visible scars. However, it is still important to book a consultation as early as possible if you notice signs of a tumor or lesion to avoid any risks of damage to the eyeball.
